Workshop 8

Redemption and Love Beckoning: Embracing Suffering in the Spiritual Journey

🕊️ 1. Preparing the Heart

“Be still and know that I am God.” — Psalm 46:10

Grace to Ask For:

“Lord, grant me the grace to know how deeply I am loved in my suffering, to recognize Your redeeming presence within it, and to respond with love and trust.”

🌄 2. Entering the Scene (Composition of Place)

A Reading from the Gospel of Luke 22:39-46

Use your imagination to enter the story.

What stirs in your heart as you witness this?
Write a few words or a phrase that captures what you feel.

💔 3. Points for Reflection and Prayer

First Point – Love Enters Our Suffering

“By His wounds we are healed.” — Isaiah 53:5

Imagine Christ drawing near to that place.
See Him standing beside you — silent, compassionate, fully present.
His gaze carries no judgment, only tenderness.
What happens as He stands there with you and as He looks at you with compassion?

You can write your reflection

Second Point – Love Beckons You Forward

“Come, follow Me.” — Matthew 4:19

💭 Reflect:

Where is Love beckoning you right now?
Through what challenge or uncertainty is God inviting you to trust Him?

What might “following Him” look like in your current life?

Third Point – Embracing Suffering with Christ

“If anyone wants to be My disciple, let them take up their cross daily and follow Me.” — Luke 9:23

💭 Reflect:

  • What cross are you carrying today?
  • Can you place it gently in His hands and rest there with Him?
  • What does He wish to give you in return?

Fourth Point – The Fruit of Redemption

“Behold, I make all things new.” — Revelation 21:5

💭 Reflect:

  • What new life might be emerging in you through suffering?
  • Where have you seen love transform your heart?

Fifth Point – Love’s Invitation

“As the Father has loved Me, so I have loved you; abide in My love.” — John 15:9

💭 Reflect:

  • How might your own redeemed wounds become compassion for someone else?
  • Where are you being called to bring gentle love into another’s suffering?

💬 4. The Colloquy — A Conversation with Christ

“Come to Me, all who labor and are burdened, and I will give you rest.” — Matthew 11:28

Listen now —
What does Christ say to you?
What word or image remains in your heart?

Pray the Suscipe of St. Ignatius:

Take, Lord, and receive all my liberty,
my memory, my understanding, and my entire will —
all that I have and call my own.
You have given all to me; to You, Lord, I return it.
Everything is Yours; do with it what You will.
Give me only Your love and Your grace — that is enough for me.

🌅 5. Closing Reflection

💭 Reflect:

What moment touched you most deeply?
What invitation will you carry forward?
Where did you sense Christ’s presence most clearly?
